Trusted partner to security printers

Further to the announcement on 1 February 2018, Epiris Fund II has today completed the acquisition of Portals De La Rue Ltd ( “Portals”) the security paper business of De La Rue plc. As a result, Portals is once again a business fully focused on the production of security paper and entirely dedicated to supplying the highest quality paper and service to the world’s leading security printers. Portals will continue to supply De La Rue plc with security paper.

For the past three centuries, Portals has been making security paper for use in banknotes and security documents such as passports, vehicle registration documents and birth and marriage certificates. Throughout this time we have established ourselves as a leader in security paper innovation, with the Portals name being synonymous with pioneering innovations in the security paper industry.

Today, our two UK sites have a combined capacity of 16,000 tonnes – producing more than 12 billion banknotes and 70 million passports each year, not to mention many billions of security documents for use in more than 100 countries around the world. Every product we produce is bespoke and our breadth of experience and technical capabilities mean our customers have the flexibility to choose a paper solution that complements their security strategy and design requirements.

As we move forward, we will continue our tradition of innovation with increased investment in product R&D, our people, our capabilities and processes. Combined with our proven track record and industry leading expertise our customers can trust that Portals is there to meet their current and future requirements.

Underpinning our business is a highly skilled and professional team led by an established executive management board: Ross Holliday (Chief Executive Officer), Tim Jones (Global Director of Sales) and Laura Wheeler (Strategy and Marketing Director). The Portals Board will be chaired by Colin Child who has over 25 years experience on the boards of international companies.

“I am extremely proud to lead the Portals team as we regain our independence. The Portals name is highly respected and reassuringly familiar throughout the security print industry and we intend to build on this heritage in the years ahead. Our wealth of experience and expertise combined with a greater focus on technical innovation and increased investment will benefit our customers and partners around the globe.”

Ross Holliday, CEO

“As a leading security paper manufacturer Portals has an important role to play in shaping the future of the security documents’ market and meeting the changing needs of our customers. With our new independence, a re-energised Portals Team and the funds to invest we are well placed to meet these needs.”
